POV's Frequently Asked Questions

These are a few of the most frequently asked questions about both Point of View, and professional video production in general. If you have any questions that aren't on this list, please email them to info@pointofviewvideo.com.

Q.1 - What can professional video production do for me or for my company?

Through it's inherant power to stimulate multiple senses at the same time, professional video production has the ability to to edify, to influence, and to excite. It can be a great visual aid for demonstrating a new product to potential investors, plus an exciting, up-beat way to promote a company's image, or train it's employees on tough concepts that are better understood when the message is both seen and heard. Video can also be a time capsual that preserves priceless moments in life. Through the pristine looking glass of professional video, memories can be viewed through a frame of reference that is clear, steady, and non-distracting from the subject matter.

Q.2 - I've heard premium quality professional video is very expensive. How can we afford to do it? Is DIY a better alternative?

The question is "how can you afford not to do it?" When it comes to presenting your image, you won't be taken seriously unless the presentation is eye-catching, tightly composed, and to the point. DIY is a mistake that is virtually always regreted in the long run. You got it cheap, but what you really got was a cheap looking video. Hiring trained professionals saves you the time of encountering all the little things that go into the process of video production that you never thought about. Hiring a professional production company makes it easy for you to get exactly what you want, and to know all the options there are to choose from. Video is by no means a "cheap" medium, but in the past few years, the digital video revolution has given producers the ability to get a much higher picture and sound quality for a fraction of the price. That savings is transfered to you. We know that businesses and budgets come in all sizes. Please contact Point of View today for a free quote.

Q.4 - Can voice-overs be added?

Yes. Point of View can either do the recording for you, or VOs off DAT can be incorporated.

Q.5 - Can you fix under-exposed or discolored video?

Video can be tweaked to a certain extent, though camera shake can not be removed, and if it has been shot out of focus, video can't be brought into focus. To avoid headaches, it's best to get it shot correctly by a trained professional so the issue won't even come up except in rare instances when shooters are forced to work with difficult available light.

Q.6 - What are Point of View's post production capabilities?

Professional grade nonlinear editing is done on a system by FAST accompanied by unlimited layering of 3D motion/compositing effects created with Boris FX.

Q.7 - What's the average turn-around time?

The turn-around time depends greatly on the length of the video, the deadline (if there is one), and how many videos there are in line in front of it. Five to ten minute promotional or training videos which generally have deadlines can be turned over in a week or two, while movie length videos such as weddings take considerably longer. Weddings can take anywhere from two to twelve weeks to complete depending on the season. The high attention to quality is not compromised. Though we wish your video could be in your hands when you come home from the honeymoon, it just takes a while to create a movie length hierloom. These videos are intended to become family hierlooms and are created as such. The extra time is taken and the quality is not spared. There is great pride taken in the classic styling and fine crafstmanship of all videos by Point of View. However, deadlines are always taken into consideration.

Q.8 - Is duplication service available?

Tape duplication is available in orders of 200 or less. No copyrighted material will be accepted for duplication.

Q.9 - Is wireless audio available?

Yes. Two Lectrosonics broadcast grade wireless systems are available for use in productions. These are the same wirelesses that have been used in the production of a 16mm independent film.

Q.10 - Can video be delivered on disk, company intranets, or the web?

Yes. All three can be done, but the web is still a bit slow in 1999 to send digital video over with any resolution or length. The prefered way to show training videos is over an intranet or off of video tape. CD and DVD are great for trade shows where a video will be looped, though CD is considerably more affordable and currently more available than DVD.

Q.11 - What about writing a script?

You can either compose your own script, or a script writer can take your ideas and compose one for you.

Q.12 - Can on-screen talent be included?

Yes. Casting sessions can be set up, but they require advanced notice and planning.

Q.13 - Can crane and steadycam shots be done?

Yes. These shots can be incorporated to add the look of a major motion picture to any production.

Q.14 - What is offered in the way of scores?

A royalty-free production library of songs, cues, and sound effects is available to complete the soundtrack.

Q.15 - How is animation priced?

Animation varies widely in price because different complexities of animation require more time and are more labor-intensive than others. It can't be included in a quote until a proposal has been agreed upon that details exactly what the client's animation needs are.

Q.16 - Is a shooting studio available?

Though Point of View doesn't currently have a shooting facility of it's own, there are various production facilities that can be booked for whatever size production that is in the works.

Q.17 - Can work be done on spec?

If that is an attempt at sounding professional when asking if work that regularly commands a high fee because it utilizes expensive equipment, years of expertise, and a great deal of highly skilled labor can be given away for free, the answer is no. But don't get discouraged. If you have a good idea for a video that you believe will make money, investors are out there. If you don't have the budget on your own, but believe your idea is sellable, you can find sponsorship if you look hard enough. Virtually every Hollywood movie ever made has gone through a similar process.

Q.18 - I need information on weddings.
